Two Lok Adalats were held in Kolkata on Saturday, which helped settle a significant number of pending cases. The Lok Adalats were organized in Alipore and Bankshall Court, and according to court sources, the state government's fund for the settlement of NI Act cases, traffic cases, and minor cases alone collected a whopping 72 crore rupees in Bankshall Court. At the same time, a fine of about two crore rupees was collected in the pending traffic case of Kolkata Police.
The traffic police officials have observed that many bike and car owners tend to avoid paying traffic fines easily, leading to an increase in pending cases. It has been noticed that bus and goods vehicle owners have a higher tendency to not pay the fines. To ensure speedy disposal of traffic cases, Lok Adalats are set up.
